Cricket is often referred to as ‘the gentleman’s game’, conjuring images of a good-natured sporting contest on the village green.

Those days are now long past, with Twenty20tournaments such as the Indian Premier League turning cricket into a major professional enterprise. The stakes are higher and egos bigger than they used to be. And sometimes, those egos clash.

Fights in cricket tend to be a slow-burning affair; a release of pent-up tension rather than the adrenaline-and-aggression-fuelled explosion of a contact sport like football, ice hockey, or rugby.
