A school girl earns millions from soda bottle caps! How?
You know how some people can look at something ordinary like a metal soda bottle cap and have the imagination to create something unique out of it, while others are just going to always see nothing but a metal soda bottle cap? Well Maddie Bradshaw from Dallas, Texas for sure falls into the first category. She was just 10 years old when the idea struck her to colour up some Coke bottle caps her uncle gave her from his old school soda machine.
Maddie added magnets to her bottle cap creations so she could pretty up her metal school locker. When many school mates began asking her to make them for her, she knew she was onto something. So, Maddie created a line of colourful bottle cap and magnet necklaces she eventually had officially registered as Snap Caps(R). Here’s a photo of her colourfully detailed necklaces that really caught on with her target market of school aged girls:
After her first 50 necklaces sold out in less than two hours at a local toy store, the demand was on! Maddie’s mom had to help her out in coming up with $300 for start up costs, but it was well worth the investment since Maddie, and her company m3 girl designs, made $1.6 million dollars in the first year!
Now 17 years old, Maddie is still in the bottle cap jewelry business and has realized annual revenues of $2.1 million for some years for her company. The product lines have expanded into many different design themes that appeal to different ages of girls. Over 50,000 necklaces are sold each month by m3 girl designs and over 6,000 retail stores now carry Maddie’s products.
Maddie has also published a book titled You Can Start a Business Too! and keeps inspiring young female entrepreneurs everywhere to let them know that they have the potential to become millionaires through creativity and perseverance just like she did.
