CAN Announces Team For Fundraising Event : ‘Bat for Nepal’ | Sports
Sri Lankan Legend Sanath Jayasuriya will lead World XI
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Tuesday unveiled the 13-member Nepali team that will take on World XI in the in the fundraising match ‘Bat for Nepal’ at Kinrara Oval in Malaysia on Sunday.
The proceeds from the event will go to a relief fund for victims of the April 25 earthquake.
Bhuwan Karki and Mehaboob Alam made their return in the national team while Subash Khakurel and Binod Bhandari were not included in the team.
Likewise, all rounder Sagar Pun and bowler Basanta Regmi were omitted from the team due to injury concerns, said CAN.
Team Nepal is comprised of skipper Paras Khadka, Raju Silwal, Siddhant Lohani, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar, Rajesh Pulami Magar, Sompal Kami, Anil Mandal, Shakti Gauchan and Karan KC, along with Bhuwan and Mehaboob.
Team World XI will be led by Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jyasuriya, who has 21,032 runs and 440 wickets at international level.
Also playing for the World XI is former Pakistan keeper-captain Rashid Latif, Bangladesh spin duo Abdur Razzak and Sohag Gazi as well as Steve O’Keefe and Marcus Stoinis, who are returning from Australia A’s tour of India.
Other names include Venugopal Rao who played 16 ODIs for India, former Bangladesh captain and now ACC development officer Aminul Islam, and Singapore batsman Chetan Suryawanshi.
